Field and Water Obedience
You can anticipate about 30 days of basic obedience sessions right off the bat. Training sessions are held at different locations around our property. After the dogs start understanding the concepts, we will introduce them to field and water settings. From there, this is a back and forth motion until the concept is grasped.
Recall: Dogs are trained to come back to the handler when summoned. This is achieved using voice commands, whistle, and overlaid with a e-collar.
Heel: Your dog is trained to walk in the correct position beside you. They will learn to adjust their pace to align with yours.
Sit: We will teach your dog to sit on and off the working table.
Whoa: Dogs are taught to stop and freeze when the whoa command is given.
Retrieving
Retrieving teaches your dog to return game or bumpers to the handler from water or land. Owners can choose between two types of retrieval training for their dog: A natural retrieve or conditioned retrieve.
Natural Retrieve: Owners that opt for a natural retrieve will receive game/bumper within a short distance of themselves. Majority of dogs we see will naturally retrieve. Many owners are content with this result.
Conditioned Retrieve: If your wanting a cleaner retrieve, this option teaches dogs to deliver to hand. Dogs must be at least 6 months old to enroll in this specific type of training and rates may vary.
Collar Conditioning
It's crucial that E-collar training is approached positively, rather than as a form of punishment. The E-collar provides dogs with a sense of freedom while offering peace of mind to the owner. It serves solely as a means for owners to convey their needs to their dogs and acts as an extension of the leash.
Introduction to E-Collar: Dogs are taught how the E-collar works in a controlled environment.
Collar Conditioning (Started): Dogs learn to associate recall with the E-collar while in the field.
Collar Conditioning (Advanced): For matured dogs the e-collar may also be used to reinforce steadiness in the field.
Place Training
Place training is essential when it comes to preparing your dog for waterfowl situations. It instills patience and self control on the dogs part.
Introduction to Place Training: Dogs are introduced to the concept of "Place." We use elevated platforms, the ground, and various spots around the property to ensure your dog feels more at ease and self-assured in any situation they encounter.
Place Training (Advanced): For matured dogs we introduce time and distractions to test their ability to stay in their designated spot. This process is repeated until the desired level of steadiness is reached.
Gun Conditioning
A straightforward yet essential task for every gun dog breed. Skipping gun conditioning can lead to fear in your dog or puppy, which may be challenging to resolve over time.
Introduction: We gradually introduce blank guns and shotguns while the dog is distracted, ensuring we don't proceed closer until the dog is completely comfortable with the sound.
